Exploring the impacts of barriers on fish movement and populations: focusing on management & conservation
Timeline:
December 2016 - March 2020
Objectives:
Evaluate the impacts of barriers (both small and large) on fish populations and fish movement, investigate the effects of barrier removal, and explore management and conservation strategies to mitigate barriers impacts.
Funding:
Horizon 2020 AMBER project
Results:
We find that fish movement and population sustainability are greatly impacted by barriers, that small barriers have significant consequences (not just big barriers!) for fish, and that barrier removal is the most viable option for restoring connectivity, habitats and population sustainability.
Outputs:
Three peer-reviewed publications (here, here, here, here, here, here & here); two invited presentations at international conference.
